On Sunday, January 24, 2010, David attended the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo. The annual event takes place at the Sebring Regional Airport in Sebring, Florida. David was able to talk with many of the manufacturers of light sport aircraft.

This first interview is with Tom Peghiny of Flight Design USA. Tom and David talk about the Flight Design CTLS and what makes it such a great LSA.

This week we welcome Monika Petrillo into the virtual hangar. Monika is a private pilot living in Los Angelas, CA. After getting her private pilot’s license, Monika ventured out on a trip to fly all the way around the continent of Australia. With her family in tow, including her father who had also just gotten his private ticket, Monika chronicled the entire adventure. Several years later, Monika released her self-produced documentary film Flyabout.

Monika talks about the motivation to get her private pilot’s license, how her father reacted to the news, and how they decided to take on such a wild adventure together. Will and David introduce a new segment into the show that they call the Dream Hangar, where we talk about which three airplanes we would want in our Dream Hangar. Finally, we wrap up with some ATC: The Aviation Trivia Challenge.

Lyn is the founder of BuildAPlane, an organization that helps to match unfinished or damaged airplanes with high schools and other youth organizations, thus providing kids an opportunity to work on a real airplane. Lyn talks about how he started BuildAPlane, discusses how people can get involved, and gives a few examples of the many great stories related to BuildAPlane projects.

This is a special episode of PFPL. David is on-location at NASA‘s Kennedy Space Center Press Site for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the launch of Space Shuttle Atlantis on STS-129 to the International Space Station.

This QuickCast was recorded the day after the launch of Atlantis and the STS-129 crew. One of the Tweetup participants, Chris Floyd, flew his own Mooney Ovation 3 from Northern California all the way to Florida. Chris is one of the guys who really “gets” general aviation, and he takes great pride in spreading his enthusiasm and excitement to others. This QuickCast is cockpit audio of the last few minutes of a flight David took with Chris in his gorgeous Mooney. And we do mean gorgeous.
